Dale Coyner’s Appalachian roots can be traced back several generations, but it wasn’t until he felt the region from the saddle of his first motorcycle that he fell in love with the Appalachians.

Coyner has plotted out 35 of his favorite day-long trips through Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the Carolinas. His intricately described trips will lead you over jagged mountain passes, through century-old covered bridges, and around some of the most perfectly banked, glass-smooth curves you’ve ever ridden.

Learn what must be seen—New River Gorge—and what must be avoided—Mystery Hole, where as Coyner points out, “the only mystery is what happens to your money.” Find out how Amish farmers react to a fully loaded Gold Wing, where Harleys are born, and what to do when confronted by a herd of neurotic deer on the roadway.

This book is packed with colorful maps, colorful photos, and colorful Coyner humor that will have you laughing out loud. Coyner tips you to the best places to eat, shop, sleep, gas up, fix your bike, and, of course, ride. If you want adventure, and a great riding companion, take this book along when you head out to explore what will soon be your favorite region to ride: the Appalachians.

All the important information is exceptionally well organized, and the beautiful color photography and crisp, clean graphics (on thick, high grade paper, no less) complete the package nicely. This book is a must-have for anyone—native or visitor—who wants to ride the Appalachians, and well worth the $25 cost of admission.

. . . added a whole new dimension to my adventures. Coyner’s book has consistently been one of the best selling motorcycle map and travel guides in the Whitehorse Press “Journeys” series, which are themselves some of the best motorcycle touring guide books available.

A wonderfully engaging motorcycle-touring book, featuring 36 day-long routes, spread throughout this Appalachian Mountain region. Far more than just a where-to guide for motorcyclists, Dale Coyner’s offering provides substantial history for the major sights found within the book’s covered states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the Carolinas, as well as endearing back stories to many of the mom & pop operations and offbeat features that are peppered throughout. . . this book sends both of my thumbs rocketing skyward. . .
